In the 15 May afternoon our colleague Dr Romolo Romano, researcher of the Istituto Internazionale di Vulcanologia-C.N.R.,  passed away after a long illness.

He has represented the reference of volcanological studies at Mt. Etna for decades, not only for the international volcanological community but also for people living on the volcano flank.

His geological map of Mount Etna published in 1979 has been at the base of the researches of the last decades and will remain one of the milestones in the volcanology of Mt. Etna.
