ETNA UPDATE, 14 FEBRUARY 2014, 15:45 GMT

Mild Strombolian activity is continuing at Etna's New Southeast Crater (NSEC), emitting negligible amounts of volcanic ash, as seen in the photograph at left, taken at daybreak on 14 February 2014 from Tremestieri Etneo, on the southern flank of the volcano. Emission of lava from a vent located within the collapse scar formed on the lower eastern flank of the NSEC cone on 11 February 2014, has gradually diminished over the past 36 hours, feeding active lava flows only a few hundred meters long.

The mean amplitude of the volcanic tremor has shown a slow diminution over the past 48 hours, yet remaining slightly elevated compared to background levels.

Further updates will be timely provided.
