ETNA UPDATE, 8 NOVEMBER 2013

During the day of 8 November 2013, intermittent explosive activity continued at Etna's New Southeast Crater for the fourth consecutive day. In the previous two days, there had been several phases with more frequent explosions, which produced conspicuous puffs of ash during daylight, whereas at night, incandescent material was seen to be launched by Strombolian explosions. Today, the explosions occurred at intervals of several hours, producing small plumes of ash that rose a few hundred meters above the summit of the volcano and were then carried east-northeastward by the wind. Currently, there are no significant variations in the volcanic tremor amplitude.
