Etna and Stromboli update, 19 February 2013

During the early morning hours of 19 February 2013, Etna's New Southeast Crater has produced a new lava fountaining episode, the first event of this kind since the paroxysm on 24 April 2012. During the preceding days, the same crater had been the site of intermittent, weak Strombolian activity. On the late evening of 19 February 2013, Strombolian activity resumed at the New Southeast Crater. At Stromboli, the effusive activity initiated on 8 February 2013 continued to produce small lava overflows from the crater terrace until the morning of 17 February.
