Etna and Stromboli update, 15 January 2013

On the early morning of 15 January 2013, a rapid diminution of the volcanic tremor amplitude marked the cessation of Strombolian activity within Etna's Bocca Nuova, 5 days after the start of this latest episode of intracrater activity. At Stromboli, the intermittent emission of small lava flows from the crater terrace is continuing, at times accompanied by landslides caused by the sliding and rolling of loose rock material on the steep slope of the Sciara del Fuoco.
