Dal 14 novembre 2010 il Cratere di Nord-Est, il più alto dei quattro crateri sommitali dell'Etna, ha prodotto delle emissioni intermittenti di cenere marrone-rossastra, formando un plume alto qualche centinaio di metri, che è stato portato dal vento a distanze di decine di chilometri. Un sopralluogo eseguito in giornata 15 novembre ha rilevato che le emissioni di cenere sono accompagnate da forti sibili profondi, e che la bocca interna presente sul fondo del cratere si è notevolmente allargata. From early 14 November 2010 on, the Northeast Crater, the tallest of the four summit craters of Etna, has produced intermittent emissions of reddish-brown ash, forming a plume a few hundred meters high and being carried by the wind for tens of kilometers. A visit to the summit craters on 15 November revealed that the ash emissions are accompanied by loud rumbling noises, and the open vent present on the floor of the Northeast Crater has enlarged notably.
